Metric conversion screwcutting gears
Quality made, in small batches, in the UK
Pair of screwcutting gears suitable for Myford machines fitted with the quick change box.
The Myford screwcutting gearbox is set to cut imperial threads only, to cut metric threads you need to remove the banjo and the gear train and replace these with a metric conversion set. PROBLEM WITH THAT IS - As well as a lot of work and cost you also lose the fine feed arrangement until the standard banjo and train is put back.
Now just by replacing the 24 tooth input gear on the tumber reverse with one of these two gears it's possible to cut most of the common metric threads by selecting various ratios supplied by the gearbox.
These two gears will allow the following pitches to be cut:-
0.45, 0.75, 0.9, 1.0, 1.25, 1.50, 1.75, 2.00, 2.25, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4, and 4.5mm pitch
There is a slight pitch error using this method but it is very small and will not show up on normal threads and more than outweighs the hassle of having to swap whole gear trains compared to a single gear.
One pair – 2 gears

Supplied with a laminated chart showing which of the two gears to use and which gearbox ratio.
